Aviation watchdog DGCA has banned the use of a particular model of power bank on flights.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in a communication dated September 29, has prohibited the carriage and use of the "MOBIKINS MK-PB-04 power bank", citing a recent fire incident involving the power bank.
Specific details about the particular incident or about the maker of the power bank could not be ascertained.
In view of the recent fire incident involving the power bank and considering the potential safety risks associated with it, DGCA said the power bank should not be "carried or transported on board the aircraft, whether as passenger baggage (including checked-in and cabin baggage) or as cargo, on any flight to, from or within India".
There have been incidents of power banks catching fire on flights.
On October 11, a passenger's power bank kept in the overhead bin of a Chennai-bound IndiGo plane caught fire, following which the aircraft was diverted to Hyderabad airport, where it landed safely, according to sources.
